Below we give a simple explanation of what width you can order best. The average Dutch feet width size is more narrow than that of the Germans, so therefore we have changed the Birkenstock width size to the Dutch feet.
For all T-bar sandals from size 35:
For the T-bar sandal the open footprint is 'normal' (normal to wide). This size is best for the normal foot. |
|
For the T-bar sandal the black footprint is 'narrow' (narrow to normal). |
For the following T-bar sandals the open foot stands for normal:
Ramses
Gizeh
Mayari
Kairo
(except for model Yara)
All Birkenstock products with a black footprint are sized 'normal' (narrow till normal). This width is best for the normal foot. (The shoebox label will say narrow because that concerns the German size.) |
|
For all the other Birkenstock products the open footprint means 'wide' (normal till wide). This width is best for the suits for the more wide foot. (The shoebox label will say normal because that concerns the German size.) |
Our advice is to choose for the black footprint (normal width) with sandals, beach sandals, shoes, loafers, mules, and clogs, which means normal width.
Are you aware of having wide feet? Than please choose for the open footprint. This is the wide version for sandals, beach sandals, shoes, loafers, mules, and clogs.
Do you already have a Birkenstock product?
Then have a look on the insole of the product. Just before the size is the image of a footprint, just like shown above. This is the only way to check what size width your Birkenstock product is.
This is how you can check the size for your Birkenstock productIf you are buying your first Birkenstock product, we advise you to fit in the store. If this is not an option for you, you can use our size help. Just as important as selecting the right width is the choice for the correct length, because the choice of the right length and width also increases the life of your Birkenstock product. Your toes need flexibility to move freely when walking. Therefore, there needs to be sufficiënt space between the foot and the edge of the footbed. Tip: only try on your Birkenstock product while standing! You will find that your feet need more space when it has to carry the body weight. You must have a few millimeters of space at the heel and the toes. Toes and heel must never touch the edge of the footbed.

Size:
When in doubt between two sizes, we always recommand to choose the smallest. Usually Birkenstock products are slightly bigger than normal shoes. Have a good look at the mm sizes, because this is the correct way to find the best fitting size.
